21 Savage Roasts Rapper Saying He’s Not From the U.S.
Since it was revealed that he was an immigrant from the U.K. this past February, 21 Savage has been the subject of countless memes and outright jokes on the internet. Now, he's clapped back—at least at one person.
The stage for 21's come back was set after one rapper joked about his English background underneath his Instagram post that includes his image of the cover for the latest edition of Paper Magazine on Tuesday (June 11) (He's on the cover of this issue).
"You from the UK where y’all have knights and swords," wrote the rapper, referencing 21's caption that alluded to him being based in East Atlanta. That's when 21 fired back.
"@pariss_darapper you a truck driver and you a rapper," 21 wrote, referencing the self-identified rapper and truck driver in a quick-fire IG comment response. The comment appears to have been deleted shortly after it was posted.
While people have made fun of 21 for his surprising background, the matter of his being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) isn't a laughing matter. Speaking with Paper Magazine, the rapper revealed some of the conditions he faced as he stood in detention.
"I didn't see my kids for almost two weeks," 21 told the publication. "There are people in detention centers just sitting for months and even years not being able to see their families. Then some of those people just end up being sent off overnight to a place they ain't never really lived and they don't ever see their family after that."
