A 9th grader in Houston, Texas who was shot in the back over a pair of shoes has died.

KHOU 11 reports that according to Houston police, 14 year old Alex Turcios was shot in the back on Friday, May 6 after two guys approached Turcios and wanted his shoes.



The shooting happened about 8:10pm and was reported after a neighbor heard the shots and found Turcios. He was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition. Turcios was able to tell the investigators that the two gunmen ripped his shoes off after he was shot and left bleeding on the ground.

Turcios would die from his wounds on Saturday.

Suspects at Large

Gregory Dunn was the neighbor who reported the shots and found Turcios says he saw the two men drive off in a dark colored PT Cruiser.

He was unable to get a description of the gunmen but says, "You do what you gotta do, if you saw what happened, please contact HPD."

Turcios was a 9th grader at Lamar High School and was described as kind and smart by his friends. Houston ISD also released a statement saying:

"HISD grieves the loss of a Lamar High School student who died over the weekend while off campus. We offer our deepest sympathy to the student's family, friends and the entire school community. Counselors have been made available to support students and staff at this difficult time."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family cover funeral costs.
