Gucci Mane’s New Biopic Is Officially in the Works
Gucci Mane has already told his story in albums and books, but the Atlanta rapper now wants to have his story play out on the big screen.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is teaming up with Imagine Entertainment to produce a Gucci Mane biopic. The studio has retained the rights to Guwop's life story, as well as the rights to his latest book, The Autobiography of Gucci Mane.
Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins will produce the project with the rapper and Todd Moskowitz acting as executive producers.
While news of the film has just been confirmed, Gucci actually broke the news in January. "#TheAutoBiographyOfGuccimane is coming to a theatre 🎭near you #DirectorGuccimane #1017Films," he tweeted.
In a previous interview, the Mr. Davis rapper revealed it was his engineer who suggested he write a book. "I was like, OK, let me try it," said Gucci . "Then one day, I wrote 30 pages. Then Neil [Martinez-Belkin, co-author of the book] wrote me in prison, and I remembered him from interviewing me for XXL. He told me that I should write a book and left his number."
The rapper also revealed he "100 percent" plans to write another book and also plans to work on a screenplay. "And I'm definitely going to write that screenplay," he added.
Gucci recently dropped his latest album, El Gato: The Human Glacier. The 11-track project includes no guest appearances and features production solely from Southside of 808 Mafia.
