City Councils all over Bell County are putting their 2020 budgets together and making announcements this week.

Earlier this week we saw that officials in Killeen voted to give themselves a raise. Over in Belton, they decided to make sure their first responders saw some love by approving raise for civil-service employees and street maintenance. By comparison, Killeen opted to pass the bill for road maintenance on to residents will an extra utility charge.

The Belton 2020 Budget was approved at 28.6 million dollars.

Firefighters in Belton will be looking at a wage increase from $40,428 to $41,700. KWTX reports that first-year firefighters in Harker Heights earn about $50,000, in Georgetown, they earn $49,675, and in Killeen, the starting pay is about $45,000.

The City of Belton says that they are also committed to looking at employee compensation each year as they put the budget together to find ways to take care of their employees as best they can.
