David Garza, a Copperas Cove, Texas resident, has found a great use for old Christmas trees. He is the co-founder of Canes for Veterans Central Texas.

Putting Used Christmas Trees to Good Use

Garza is one of co-founders of the non-profit, which takes old Christmas trees and and carves them down to walking canes. They then donate them to veterans in need.

Garza tells Rosemond Crown with KWTX that the canes do more than just help them walk, “It’s telling their story with their name, rank, insignia, where they’ve been, how many years of service, and some of these veterans all they want is somebody to talk to for 10 or 15 minutes and it makes a great difference in their lives. And people get curious about what the insignia is or whatever, where they’ve been. It’s a conversation piece.”
