The Nolanville City Council is moving forward with a proposal to ban texting while driving within city limits.

The penalty being considered is not to exceed $500 dollars for violations and double the amount if workers are present in a construction zone.

Former Mayor Dennis Biggs told the Killeen Daily Herald:

I think this is a great idea that should have been instituted a long time ago. The only time a person should be allowed to talk or text on a cell phone is when they are parked.

The city council says this is an example of city leaders doing everything possible to make sure its citizens are protected. They will further consider the proposal at a future meeting.

What do you think? Will a ban on texting and driving make a difference in the number of accidents in Central Texas?
