Companies In The CenTex Are Giving Employees The Day Off For Juneteenth
Some of your favorite businesses are honoring Juneteenth.
This last month has been full of surprises and life-changing events. With the death of several unarmed black people and the unjust treatment of African Americans, POC and other races have continued fighting for equality, but unfortunately, this isn't anything new.
Recently, the movement has pushed small businesses and corporations to put action behind the "we support the movement," talk, and some are creating change starting with this Friday, Juneteenth.
Juneteenth is the day that POC celebrates the emancipation of Slavery in Texas. *Note the slaves were emancipated months prior, but they did not know of it.* A festival is usually held every year on June 19 to commemorate such a significant moment for our ancestors.
This year many companies are giving their employees the day off and making the day a paid holiday.
The companies in our area include JCPenney, Lyft, and Postmates. Target has announced that they will remain open, but employees who work will receive time in half, and those who call off will still get paid for their regular hours.
Although the list continues to grow, I would love to see a ton more support the movement.
In the meantime, I'll be turning up and celebrating!
