With Miley Cyrus having everyone talking about 'twerking' after her MTV Video Music Awards performance, including our very own B106 midday diva Dani Morgan. 'Twerking' has even bounced its way into the Oxford Dictionary, here's the official definition...

"Twerk, v.: dance to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low, squatting stance."

I have to admit as a guy I do love to see women 'twerk,' but as I watch women in the club and the millions of videos posted on YouTube showing off their 'twerking' skills, I notice that the movements may be beneficial for staying fit.  Even the definition states, 'thrusting hip movement in a low squatting stance', looks like a workout to me. Sure, 'twerking' isn’t the most traditional form of dance or exercise, but it can also be a very inexpensive way to stay fit. It doesn’t require any equipment and you don’t even have to leave your house. The most you would need is a really good playlist, preferably something that gets you up and moving like B106. Whether you’re at home in the mirror or out at a club, 'twerking' raises your heart rate and can possibly get you in shape.

Dancer, dance-fitness pro, and the creator of Hip Brazil Dance and Fitness, Vanessa Isaac said that 'twerking' is good for cardio and also muscle toning.

“For what I see this can be very good cardio, and the fact that you work your legs, hips, and waist can help in the toning of muscles in this area too,” Issac told Frugivore Magazine.

Isaac also stated that in addition to its fitness benefits, it can also be tons of fun.

So 'twerk' away and stay fit! Maybe Atlanta duo the Twerk Team could teach a class? They already have many videos...as seen above.
