Disney Parks Have Officially Banned Selfie Sticks

If you want to take a selfie at the happiest place on Earth, you're going to have to do it the old fashioned way.

Disney announced Friday that the devices would no longer be welcome at any of its parks, including those in California, Florida, Paris, and Hong Kong. The company initially tried just banning the sticks on rides, but the ban was frequently ignored by guest, causing several incidences of rides being shut down for extended periods of time due to safety concerns. Officials worried that the sticks might injure other guests or become caught in ride mechanisms.

"We strive to provide a great experience for the entire family, and unfortunately selfie sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast," Disney spokeswoman Kim Prunty said in a recent press statement.

Disney isn't the first organization to say no to selfie sticks. The devices were also banned at this year's Kentucky Derby, and music festivals such as Coachella and Lollapallooza also asked fans to leave the sticks at home.
