Low temps and rainy weather have become a major concern for those who are without shelter in Central Texas.

While many people have the luxury of bundling up with layers and staying inside of their warm homes; there are many people without electricity and or a place to call home but Family In Crisis of Killeen has opened its doors for the community.

Families In Crisis of Killeen will be open 24hrs a day until the cold weather passes and they invite anyone who may be affected by electricity issues or just in need of a warm place to stay.

Medical professionals are advising those who will be in the cold to bundle up, wear layers, hats, gloves, and scarves to keep their body temperature regulated. Surviving in cold weather is a complete beast so I've created a list of tips to help you battle the winter air.
1) Build a winter survival shelter. If you are sleeping outside always put a cardboard box under your body to block out the cold from directly touching you.
2) Understand the layering system. Wear clothes that keep you dry, trap heat and protect you from elements. Layering can apply to your hands and feet as well.
3) Drink warm or room temperature water to keep your body temperature at the correct level.
4) Be aware of cold injuries such as frostbite, trench foot, and hypothermia.

If you see any signs of the three seek medical attention.
There are several warming stations around the CenTex. Please be safe and stay warm.
