I was once a resident of Summerlyn Apartments in Killeen and just moved from that complex a few months ago. So when I saw this story, it broke my heart especially considering that the holidays are here and more than a dozen residents are now spending their holidays looking for a place to live.

According to Brandon Hamilton with our news partners at News 10, a fire at Summerlyn Apartments erupted Thursday afternoon at about 4:30 PM damaging 8 units and displacing more than a dozen residents.

The Killeen Fire Department treated one person for smoke inhalation while they continue to investigate the cause of the fire. The Red Cross has stepped in to help those residents who have been displaced.

If you would like to reach out to help those families that have been displaced, you can contact The Heart Of Texas Branch of The American Red Cross at (254) 523-4985.
