On Saturday, April 13, an EF-3 tornado tore through the Texas community of Franklin. Thankfully, no deaths were reported and the community continues to recover and rebuild.

When these things happen, people often wonder how they can help. Sometimes, big organizations decide to help make it easy.

SouthStar Bank has opened an account dedicated to relief efforts in Franklin, and have pledged to match donations up to $25,000.

“It’s sad to see the destruction, but I’m more proud every day to live in Franklin," Franklin Branch Executive Justen Salcido said Monday. "Everyone is coming out to help where they can.

According to SouthStar representative Chelsey Carothers, credit and debit card donations can be made over the phone at (979) 828-4168.

You'll need to provide the name on the card, a dollar amount, the card number, expiration date, billing zip code, security code, street or post office box number, and your email or phone number for purposes of receiving a receipt.

You can also make donations in person at SouthBank branches in Bremond, Calvert, Franklin and Hearne.

Donations will be accepted through Friday, May 10.

When our neighbors are in need, Texans step up. It's just one of the reasons ours is the best state in which to live.
