It’s Day 3 of Kwanzaa — Ojima
Happy Kwanzaa to those of you who participate in this week-long celebration. Today is day 3 of Kwanzaa and it is called Ojima (ooh-jee-ma) which means collective work and responsibility in our communities.
There are 7 principles in all. Day 1 was Umoja (oo-moh-jah) which means unity. The belief is that success starts with unity of family, community, nation and race. Day 2 is Kujichagulia (koo-jee-chah-goo-lee-ah) which means self determination.
To be responsible for ourselves and to create your own destiny.
Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration in the United States and in other nations of the Western African diaspora in the Americas. The celebration honors African heritage in Afro-American culture.
This celebration begins Dec. 26 and runs through Jan. 1.
