What Makes This Texas Lake So Special? 4 Million Tons Of Salt.
I couldn't believe it when it popped up on my screen. I should know better than to be surprised; Texas is an incredible place that thrives at being insanely unique. Take for example the La Sal Del Rey lake.
What makes this Texas lake so special? Try an estimated 4 million tons of salt.
The Lone Star State's Very Own Dead Sea
You're familiar with the Dead Sea. It's that place in Israel that's internationally famous for the insane amount of salt in its water. It's also the place where they get those special lotions and creams you buy at a mall kiosk.
The Lone Star State has its very own version of it at La Sal Del Rey.
It's a lake that is full of salt water. So much so, in fact, that some people claim you can practically walk on water when the salt content is high.
How Much Salt Is In La Sal Del Rey?
Supposedly, there's an estimated 4 million tons of salt in the lake. That's a big number that I can't even begin to wrap my brain around.
According to the information I've been able to find online, the lake's importance goes beyond being just another way for us to say "neener-neener" to other states. Historically, it provided plentiful salt to indigenous communities and settlers.
La Sal Del Rey Just Made It To My Road Trip List
I've got to go check it out. That's all there is to it. Beyond just being able to dip my toes into some salty surf.
The views are incredible. There's a lot of wildlife that calls the area home. If you're into hiking (fancy walking), you'll find plenty of trails to explore.
My Texas road trip wish list is really starting to get full.
