According to KCENT, Michael Bloomquist, the mayor of Harker Heights, stated that residents have been waiting for an update on the relationship with well-known places like Dana Peak. Residents want to know exactly what is going to happen after alleged discussions suggested that the lake could possibly be leased to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of a budget priority expected later this year.

Mayor Bloomquist made a statement on the city’s official page, noting that there is currently no agreement in place and that no operational decisions have been made. He also explained that the idea stems from public input gathered during the 2017 community visioning effort. During that process, residents said they were interested in more family activities and greater access to natural resources such as Stillhouse Hollow Lake.
