
Backpack Policies For Killeen ISD Changing Next Month In 2025
Students in the Killeen Independent School District will be seeing new backpack rules enacted soon. What will students be allowed to bring and not be allowed to have. Here's what you need to know.
Why Are Backpack Rules In Killeen ISD Changing?
As reported by FOX 44, the district is updating the rules so that they with "a safe and secure learning environment." These new rules will also happen quickly, as become the standard on May 1st of 2025. Starting on that day, normal backpacks will not be allowed in schools on campus.
Another change is that Killeen ISD students will be allowed "two small bags per student will be permitted on campus" and that "these must not exceed 6×9 inches in size." Other rules revealed by FOX 44 are the following:
- All bags approved for athletics and fine arts must be checked in or dropped off at the sponsor-designated area before the beginning of the school day.
- Students who wish to continue carrying a backpack after April 30 may do so if the backpack is clear or mesh and of standard size.

Are There Any Other Changes Coming For Parents Of Students In Killeen?
It's not just the students facing changes, parents, and by extension, visitors on campus with be subject to new guidelines, with some of them being the following:
- Clear bags may be required for adult visitors and volunteers. Please check with your child’s school for campus-specific guidance.
- All visitors must show a valid government-issued ID before entry. Even if check-in does not occur at the front office, ID verification will be in place at designated entry points.
- Pre-registration or orientation may be required for selected events to manage crowd sizes and communicate event-specific procedures.
