Gracie the Giraffe Went Missing in Texas, and the Clues Are Baffling Searchers

I'm not exactly sure how you can hide an animal as big as a giraffe. Still, according to the New York Times, Gracie the giraffe wandered off a private ranch in Texas about a week ago, and now her owners are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to her return.

How Big Of A Giraffe Are We Talking?

We're not talking about a dog or a cat, not even a guinea pig. We're talking about a giraffe. Adult male giraffes are anywhere from 16 to 18 feet tall, females are 14 to 16 feet tall, and newborn calves are at least 6 feet tall. So again, Texans, how the heck are we not able to find Miss Gracie the giraffe? Gracie is from Leakey, Texas, at Cedar Hollow Ranch, a private ranch in the Hill Country. She has now been missing for almost a week. The last time she was seen was on a game camera west of the area.

How Did Miss Gracie Wander Off?

Vic Jones, the ranch manager, says this giraffe was unlike any other. She would walk around the property, reach up, and eat tree limbs high above the ground. Miss Gracie is between 3½ and 4 years old and is considered a relatively young giraffe. She is described as having a smooth, clean coat pattern. For more than 30 years, Mr. Jones has operated this ranch, where giraffes have roamed freely. But after one mistake, when Miss Gracie apparently went through the wrong gate, she wandered off onto neighboring property beyond the ranch.

Even though there haven't been any confirmed reports of where she might be or any leads yet, Mr. Jones remains optimistic that she will return. I don't really think I need to give a description of what a giraffe looks like. Just know that it's bigger than a dog and probably nicer than a cat. Texans, let's help find Miss Gracie.
