Texas Is The New Number One For Spending On This
As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas.
For houses to food, the Lone Star State has never shied away from stepping up in a large way. After all, we've seen something that is Texas sized to say the least. One thing we can think of? None other than Big Tex of course!
But the biggest things in Texas require one major thing: a massive wallet. Nothing is ever truly free right? The Lone Star State is famous for money as well, with new data showing that isn't afraid to spend to keep many in the nation safe.
New date has been revealed that shows Texas is the new top in the nation for something the nation is constantly adjusting: defending its safety.
Texas Is Now Number One In The Nation For Defense Spending
According to the Dallas Business Journal, Texas has landed at the top of the list. The state beat out the previous number one, Virginia in two categories. contract spending and defense spending. For contract spending, the total spent was $55.5 billion, while defense spending landed at $68.4 billion.
One of the biggest areas contributing to the spending was Dallas-Fort Worth. Per the Dallas Business Journal, previous data from 2022 showed over half of the defense spending for contract happened in Dallas-Fort Worth. Vista Site Selection LLC, which was quoted by the DBJ, stated how differences between Texas and Virginia led to the Lone Star State taking the top spot:
"While Virginia’s spending remains high, Texas’s broader approach - covering everything from defense manufacturing to cyber operations - is paying off big time...Think of it like Texas having more plays in its book, whereas Virginia is leaning on a strong, but narrower, set of strategies."
