The 'Django Unchained' star will be only the ninth African-American woman in the show's 751 episode run to host the show. Washington is having quite a moment in Hollywood right now, gracing magazine covers such as Glamour, Elle and Essence and starring in one of television's biggest hits, the ABC drama 'Scandal.' Plus, she just got married to hunky San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

News of Washington's hosting gig comes on the heels of some recent press the show has gotten for its lack of diversity among permanent cast members. Specifically, producers have taken heat for their inability to cast African-American female comedians as featured performers. (Not helping matters were comments made last week by 'SNL' performer Keenan Thompson that the African-American female comics auditioning weren't good enough for the gig. Ouch.)

Wonder just how funny Washington will be on the show? Check out this clip of her on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' last year, promoting 'Django Unchained.'

Washington will be joined by musical guest, Eminem, on Nov. 2.
