Killeen City Manager to Retire in October
The City of Killeen announced today that it's losing its City Manager. Ronald Olson sent a letter announcing his intentions.
This is a nice way to quit. Oh sure, we have a special place in our heart for the guy that drops a deuce on the desk in the middle of the night. It's cool in a juvenile and stupid way, but it's not how one acts in a civilized society.
I saw a commercial the other day of a woman who bought the office a cake as a way of say "I Quit". Again, that's nice. Leaving on your terms.
But the best way to leave is to do your job to the best of your ability for as long as you want, then walk away with more than enough notice for your employer to find a suitable replacement.
Mr. Olson knocked it out of the park. Giving plenty of notice, claiming he's still working his job, and will do what he needs to do to help with the transition. Thank you, Mr. Olson, for your touch of class and showing us all the correct way to leave the job.
