In response to a recent wave of violent crime in Killeen, Mayor Jose Segarra has appeared in a public safety video to discuss ways citizens can help.

In the video, Segarra encourages citizens to say something if they see something, and offers three ways to get involved in community safety - joining or starting a neighborhood watch group, signing up for the Killeen Citizens Police Academy, and calling Crime Stoppers with any information they may have about prior or potential crimes.

Killeen has seen a number of gun crimes lately, including drive-by shootings and robberies.

The most recent occurred Monday, June 27, when a suspect shot at employees of a detailing shop from a vehicle following an argument.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 15, three suspected drive-by shootings, two individual shootings (including a woman being shot in the face), a burglary, and a robbery stretched Killeen police resources so thin that the department had to call for aid from Harker Heights police.

The FBI is involved in the investigation of at least one shooting, as well as a recent bank robbery.
