Leander, Texas Police Need Your Help to Find Mail Thieves – Have You Seen Them?

Last month, Bell County officials were searching for answers about a large pile of dumped mail in south Killeen.

Now police are searching for two men in connection to a massive mail theft in Leander, Texas.

Our news partner KWTX is reporting that letters and packages were stolen from a set of community cluster mailboxes, and the crime was caught on video.

Mail Theft in Central Texas

KXAN reports that thieves somehow managed to get a US Postal Service ‘master key,’ which was used to unlock hundreds of mailboxes at once. These 'master keys' are regional, and can be used to access all cluster mailboxes in the Leander area.

Leander officials are working closely with postal inspectors on this investigation, and are currently pursuing several active leads.

If you see something, say something. Stolen mail can lead to identity theft and mail fraud. Signing up for USPS informed delivery is a good preventative measure that lets you view and track your mail.

There is a reward up to $10,000 for information leading to a conviction for the mail theft, and an additional $50,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction related to the robbery of a postal service employee, according to KXAN.
