Man Charged With Simple Battery After Rushing the Stage at Jay-Z and Beyonce Show
Anthony Charles Thomas Maxwell, 26, was originally issued a citation for disorderly conduct after he ran onto the stage during Saturday night's concert. Maxwell was then released, but police have now added an additional charge of simple battery, according to the The Hollywood Reporter.
The incident occurred as The Carters were wrapping up their On the Run II Tour performance with "Apeshit" at the Mercedez-Benz Stadium. After making their way off stage, Maxwell ran onto the stage and followed them backstage. The man was quickly stopped by security and the artist's backup dancers, but police say he did make contact with Hov.
Following the onstage event, the On the Run II Tour team issued a statement on behalf of Jay and Bey, confirming they were safe and would not be pressing charges. "We are happy to confirm that nobody was hurt during the incident, and Mr. and Mrs. Carter are choosing not to press charges against the individual," it read.
As promised, the OTR II Tour will continue later this week on Aug. 29 in Orlando, Fla. Following the Orlando show, the couple has 10 shows left in New Orleans, Houston, San Diego and more before wrapping up on Oct. 4 in Seattle, Wash.
