Missy Elliott is finally getting her well-deserved credit. The Virginia-bred rapper is nominated as the first female rapper to be inducted into the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame, according to the Associated Press today (Nov. 7).

The "Work It" MC shared her excitement over the incredible nomination on Twitter. "I am Humbly Grateful to be nominated with so many other AMAZING writers, Congratulations to all of them also," she wrote.

Although there are many deserving writers nominated, there will only be six writers inducted. Missy joins Mariah Carey, Monica, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Lloyd Price Dean Dillion and more as performing nominees. Throughout her career of over 20 years, the rapper has penned songs for the late Aaliyah, Beyoncé and Janet Jackson, to name a few.

If Missy is inducted, she will join Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri as the only rappers to receive this achievement. Jay was inducted in June 2017 and Jermaine followed in 2018.

In addition to this nomination, Missy has been keeping busy. She announced last month that she is working on her first album in 13 years. In a tweet responding to the Recording Academy, she confirmed that her new album is in the works.

"You can expect nothing but records and people going back to dancing nonstop! All Facts! Thank you @RecordingAcademy love yall," Missy wrote.

The 50th annual Induction and Awards Gala will take place on June 13, 2019, in New York City. Congrats and good luck, Missy.
