Following Massive Delays, Mounted Warrior Museum Now Opening Thursday
Fort Cavazos, Texas is excited to finally open their doors to military service personnel and civilian families alike for the brand new Mounted Warrior Museum located on the post, and will operate for free Tuesdays through Saturdays. The building was completed in 2022 and in the past two years the museum has continued to battle several types of delays, but the last couple of years is only a dot on a timeline that has been moving forward for over a decade.

The initial plans for a museum to properly showcase the history of the post's 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment within a National Museum began in 2011, and the building was completed ten years later in 2021. Since the completion of the building there was hope that the museum would be opened in 2023, then early 2024, then July of this year, and now finally will be available for viewing on September 19th.
Thus far, $38 million dollars have been poured into the museum which already has plans to expand if more fundraising will allow. There is a goal to add a second permanent exhibit hall, an amphitheater, and classroom spaces for students or other special groups.

The museum will showcase the Army's history from the War for Independence all the way through the most recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. There will be 600-700 articles to view, and the first traveling exhibit will honor this year being the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
The museum will be located just outside of the Fort Cavazos gate, and easily accessible to the public. Some information for this article was taken from the Killeen Daily Herald.
