Texans, today is our day to celebrate with a holiday that seems like it was made just for us.

According to National Today, April 7 is National Beer Day! As if we needed any excuse to celebrate and enjoy one of our favorite beverages. We usually use the common "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" line, but today we can throw those excuses out the window.

National Beer Day falls on April 7th each year, and is for recognizing and celebrating the world’s most widely consumed alcoholic beverage. According to BestToppers,  it is the third most consumed drink overall, staggering behind tea and coffee. (Both drinks you might use to sober up.)

Beer is believed to be one of the world's oldest recipes, states the Heartland Brewery, with history dating back to ancient Iraq and Egypt. People have been making beer for over 5,000 years - basically the same time they learned to farm wheat and the process of fermentation.

Here in the U.S., April 7 is no random day. It actually holds a bit of history for our love of beer. On April 7, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act came into effect after President Franklin Roosevelt took the first step toward ending Prohibition and enacted the new law, which allowed people to brew and sell beer in the United States as long as it remained below 4.0% alcohol by volume (ABV).

Nine months later the 18th amendment was repealed on December 5, 1933 and replaced with the 21st amendment to the U.S. constitution, which allowed prohibition to be maintained at the state and local levels.

Something we've learned the hard way here in the U.S. is that alcohol prohibition does not work well around these parts.

Another fun fact: April 6, the day prior to National Beer Day, is known as New Beer's Eve.

So kick back, pop open a cold one, and relax.
