Nick Cannon Defends Decision to Work With Chris Brown on New Movie Following Backlash
It's been five years since Chris Brown had a role on the silver screen, but the Virginia entertainer will be making his return on the new film, She Ball, along with Nick Cannon. But, apparently, some people can't get over Breezy's past mistakes and have caused somewhat of an uproar over his appearance in the movie which focuses on women. Now, the Wildin Out boss is defending his decision to work with Brown.
TMZ recently caught up with Nick at Los Angeles International Airport and asked him about the backlash. "Why would they hate on it?" he asks confused. "What about Sean Penn? They hate on him?" he added, referring to the actor who faced domestic violence allegations for years. "There's definitely a double standard. They want to turn a black man into a monster anytime they can."
The upcoming film centers around a women's basketball team brought together by Cannon's character, Coach Avery Watt, in order to save the Inglewood Community Center, which he manages. “I’m very excited for this film. It’s something powerful for the culture, uplifting for the community, and the film’s main objective is to empower women! It’s going to be incredible,” says Cannon of the project.
Chris, who earned over 40 RIAA plaques in 2017, will be in the cast along with Cedric the Entertainer, Evan Ross and women basketball players from the WNBA, Ball Up and the Basketball Beauties League. Nick is also producing the film alongside Demetrius Spencer of One Media Worldwide and teaming with Birdman to produce the film's soundtrack.
