Nipsey Hussle Fans Want Crayola to Rename a Blue Crayon After Him
Nipsey Hussle fans have taken up an attempt to get Crayola to name a blue crayon after the slain rapper.
With names like LeBron James and Glasses Malone backing them, people are tweeting Crayola in response to their campaign to have consumers name a shade of blue—the only issue is the campaign is two years old and the color has since been named.
The tweets to Crayola appear to have started when Glasses quoted a 2017 tweet from @CreatorsProject about Crayola's campaign and suggested "Nipsey Blue" on Wednesday night (April 24). The post immediately went viral, and as of press time, sits at 28k RTs and 87k likes in just 12 hours. Fans have flooded both Crayola and Creators Project's mentions ever since, including LeBron. On top of agreeing with Glasses' suggestion, fans have also added other related name ideas including "Blue Laces" and "Marathon Blue," with some even suggesting making the renaming charitable as well.
"Nipsey Blue .. with portions of the proceeds going to inner city stem programs for kids," one fan wrote.
Before his passing, Nipsey was reportedly in the process of establishing a charity foundation of his own, working with local schools to rebuild playgrounds and helping improve public parks in Crenshaw. He was also helping create STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs for students, and, according to L.A. City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson, was donating shoes to kids at 59th Street Elementary and repaving the school's basketball courts.
As for the blue hue introduced by the crayon company in 2017 as a replacement for Dandelion, Crayola landed on the name "Bluetiful." They have not yet responded to the tweets for the new name.
