Pete Davidson Made a Brief ‘Saturday Night Live’ Appearance After Troubling Instagram Post
Pete Davidson made a brief appearance on Saturday Night Live hours after he posted an alarming message on Instagram, claiming he didn't "want to be on this earth anymore."
The comedian did not take part in any of the live sketches during Saturday's show, but did appear to introduce musical guests Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson. He was wearing a red sweater under a green blazer during the appearance.
Davidson, 25, also appeared in a single pre-taped sketch during which he and several other cast members parodied celebrities auditioning for the role of Academy Awards host. He played Rami Malek, joking that he could bring "maybe something fun and super high energy" to the awards show.
Fans and friends were worried for Davidson's safety after a series of worrying Instagram posts appeared on his since-deleted account Saturday afternoon. In the first of two posts he defended Kanye West, commending him for being brave enough to speak on mental illness. In the second, he revealed he'd been struggling with suicidal thoughts.
"I really don't want to be on this earth anymore," he wrote. "I'm doing my best to stay here for you but i actually don't know how much longer i can last. All i've ever tried to do was help people. Just remember i told you so."
Reps for the actor declined to comment as those close to Davidson scrambled to locate him. Finally friend Jon Cryer was able to get ahold of him, tweeting that he was "accounted for."
People later confirmed that police with the New York City Police Department conducted a welfare check on Davidson.
