VIDEO: SUV Hits Motorcycle in Killeen, Texas

KCEN-TV is reporting that the Killeen Police Department received a call on Saturday, March 30th about an accident involving a motorcycle on Veterans Memorial Boulevard near Moto Psycho motorcycle shop in Killeen.

In the video below taken by Shaun Null, the motorcyclist is seen attempting to turn when the Toyota strikes him, throwing the rider off his bike.

As the bike skids to the curb and the rider rolls multiple times, the vehicle comes to a stop.

The video clearly shows the Toyota appearing to speed up in the moments before the crash. Fortunately, according to Null, the rider did not seem to be seriously injured.

Failure to Control Speed

Killeen police said the driver of the Toyota received a ticket for 'Failure to Control Speed'.

The definition of 'controlling speed' states that you should always be in control of your vehicle, as well as able to adjust your speed and position at all times if there is a sudden change in the driving environment. This includes someone making a turn or an obstacle appearing in the roadway.

Why Did This Happen?

This accident could have been much worse, but it was still totally preventable. It's not clear why the Toyota failed to slow down.

Hopefully, this accident was a wake-up call for everyone to pay more attention to the road.
