Austin, Texas has been one of the fastest growing places for the past twenty years, and the metro continues to push out from Travis County particularly into neighboring Williamson and Hays Counties. In fact Austin only just last year slipped from the number one fastest growing metro to number two after a 14 year reign in the top spot.

Before we get too far, I want to stress that this is not some affluent bedroom community to a major money making metro. This is a small town in the middle of Texas Hill Country, and it is not located on a flashy resort area lake either.

Lending Tree just compiled a list of the most expensive micropolitan places around the United States, and Texas actually had a couple of small cities make the roster. When you consider the sheer amount of small towns and cities in the Lone Star State, only having two on the report keeps the message of affordability and low cost of living alive in Texas.

Two Texas Towns On New Most Expensive In America List

After Fredericksburg coming in at 12th place for most expensive with home prices now more expensive than Austin, another small city about the same distance from Austin to the east is Brenham, and it was number 37. The only other small town/city anywhere near us was Los Alamos, New Mexico at number 9.

Not one town in Arkansas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma made this list for most expensive in America.
