If you don't have smoke detectors or you've been ignoring the dead battery beep, it's time to fix that. You never know when a detector could save your life.

KWTX's Rhyan Henson reports that a Bruceville-Eddy family was saved by a working detector after a fire broke out in their home in the 100 block of Forest Creek Lane around 1:45 AM Friday.

After the family of three were alerted, they grabbed their pet rabbit and hoofed it outside. When firefighters arrived a short time later, they found the home's porch fully engulfed in flames.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The fire was extinguished within a quarter hour, and the cause remains under investigation.

It's easy, though grim, to imagine the family not having a detector and not realizing there was a fire until it was too late. They may not have ever realized if the smoke go to them before they woke up.
