So Where are We on 3rd Stimulus Check?
So where are we on a third stimulus check?
Remember before we got the second one, which totaled $600, President Trump was advocating for a $2,000 stimulus check? That didn’t happen because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell decided that wasn’t gonna work for us Americans.
We can debate the finer points of whether or not government should be giving us money but the reality is most Americans need a little help - myself included.
There is some good news, but with it there may also be some bad news. According to a report from CNET, there are three options lawmakers are considering when it comes to a third round of stimulus money: make them big, make them "targeted", or make them recurrent for as long as the pandemic lasts.
President Joe Biden presented his $1.9 trillion stimulus package, which includes a third stimulus check for up to $1,400, before he was sworn in on January 20th. President Biden says,
"Well, there's legitimate reason for people to say, 'Do you have the lines drawn the exact right way? Should it go to anybody making over X number of dollars, or why? I'm open to negotiate those things. But this is all a bit of a moving target in terms of the precision with which this goes."
Sounds like Biden is willing to sign a smaller bill that may see smaller payouts.
Congress may look at those making $75,000 or less for the full $1,400, while those making more may only qualify for a partial amount. That's the gist of it, anyway.
Right now, anything is still possible. Many Americans are still trying to dig out from a rough year and any amount of money is helpful.
So when will we see this third stimulus check? Who knows.
Remember: politicians say a lot of things while on the campaign trail, but actually getting it done once elected is a whole other battle.
We could still be months away. Let's hope not, though!
