Austin, Texas recently was announced as the new headquarters of Elon Musk's ventures X and Tesla as their corporate offices will join their already large presence in Central Texas, but there is also a major Austin based company that will now most likely be changing their address to Florida after agreeing to be purchased for around $605 million.

Chuy's Tex-Mex opened their first restaurant in Austin in 1982, and for over 40 years has been a family go to staple for delicious Tex-Mex dining with around 100 locations now in existence.

About 20 years after opening their original location on Barton Springs Road, then President of the United States, George Bush's twin daughters Jenna and Barbara were caught in a legal fiasco at the restaurant in 2001 for attempting to use fake identification to purchase alcohol.

Texas Based Restaurant Chain Now Selling Out In Massive Deal

The company that is acquiring Chuy's is Darden, which is named for Red Lobster founder William Darden. The company continued to own Red Lobster until 2014, and after being sold off, it recently declared bankruptcy.

The first Chuy's to open outside of Texas was 15 years ago in 2009 a little south of Nashville in Franklin, TN. Learn more about the purchase in this KXAN article.

There is no word yet about the future plans for Chuy's, but being purchased by a giant restaurant group will likely give new life into the chain, and could very well lead to expansion to other regions of the country.
