Austin, Texas is about to lose a very popular retailer and it is just the tip of the iceberg for Texas closures after the company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy last week, and announced that at least 8 other Texas stores will be closing immediately.

Brick and mortar retailers are really hurting right now especially if they are inventory heavy because they simply can't move enough products to keeps up with the rising costs of operating.

Some suppliers have been thriving in the current economic climate due to price gauging, but that leaves other retailers with making the difficult choice of raising their prices and risking even less customers. Eventually, it comes down to sales, and those numbers have been off for Conn's HomePlus for quite a while.

Massive Texas Retailer Now Closing Several Stores Amid Bankruptcy

According to this Fast Company article, the Conn's located at 5431 North Interstate 35 in Austin will be among 9 Texas locations that are closing immediately, and then of course we all will wait word for potential, additional, future closures. Right now 71 total stores are closing across the entire company.

Conn's is headquartered in The Woodlands, and traces their roots to Beaumont in the 1800's. The path through this bankruptcy is still very hidden because the company could become acquired by another retailer, or we could see assets sold off.

The Conn's in Killeen, Waco, and other two Austin locations remain open at this time.
