Houston, Texas had multiple agencies on high alert after a member of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Officer, Jesus Vargas, was gunned down while in town and attempting to serve a warrant on Wednesday. According to this KHOU article, Vargas was in Southwest Houston to serve a warrant for the arrest of Sean Christopher Davis.

Deputy Vargas was assisting the United States Marshal's Office, and their Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force when he was fired upon by Davis, and killed in the line of duty. The shooting began a massive manhunt in which several other agencies joined to locate Davis.

During the manhunt a K-9 member of the US Marshal's service named Rocky was able to locate the suspect hiding in a dumpster, and then alerted fellow officers of Davis's whereabouts. Davis clearly did not plan to be taken alive as he began shooting at the pursuing officers, and shot Rocky twice in the exchange of gunfire.

After the shootout ended with Davis being killed, police on the scene immediately jumped into action to save the life of their fellow officer. According to this KHOU article, Rocky was transported to a nearby Department of Public Safety helicopter, and was transported to receive emergency surgery.

Based on last reports, Rocky is listed as being in stable condition and expected to recover from the shootout.
