Waxahachie, Texas is the county seat for Ellis County, and downtown is where you can find the Ellis County Detention Center where Arron Semeion Thompson had been held since an initial arrest for public intoxication on November 11th that was compounded by several charges of assault on a peace officer.

Now, Thompson is facing capital murder charges after he allegedly attacked a detention officer named Isaiah Bias, 28, as he was performing his daily work responsibilities. Bias was in a holding cell around 3:45 PM on Monday when the attack occurred, he was immediately transported to Baylor, Scott and White in Waxahachie where he died according to Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman.

According to this WFAA article, Sheriff Norman had known the deceased as a member of the detention center staff for 6 years, and Bias's interest in serving the community began as member of the department's explorer program in his teens.

The whole situation is incredibly sad, and so many questions remain for why a man who was originally detained for some minor misdemeanor charges ended up five weeks later accused of killing a detention officer in a county lock up.

Thompson, 45, probably could have been released within 24 hours of his original stop for public intoxication, but instead his interaction with authorities has led him to a place where he most likely never sees freedom again, and could very well be soon facing the death penalty.
