It's a little bit hard to believe, but the school year is fast approaching in Central Texas. For some of us, it's a reminder that things are about to get hectic. For others it's the reminder that somebody forgot to prepare their little ones for the long school year ahead.

Thankfully, for those who were prepared with a list or waited to the last minute, the state of Texas has help coming soon. Texas is having its annual Sales Tax Holiday to help everyone get prepped for the new academic year.

When Is Texas' Tax-Free Weekend?

Sadly this holiday won't last forever, as much as we'd all like it to. This will only last for a weekend - from August 5th through midnight on August 7th. So there is indeed a time limit.

But What Items Are Tax-Free?

Unfortunately, not everything is exempt from taxes. Otherwise myself and others would potentially be buying food at an alarming rate. But there is indeed a fairly long list of what goods are tax-exempt.

The most obvious items are of course school supplies and backpacks. But did you also know that clothes and certain shoes are exempt from taxes as well? Face masks are included too.

What If I Buy School Supplies Online?

For those who are unable to go to stores in person or don't want to brave the Texas heat, tax exemptions extend to online shopping as well. If you're planning to purchase items online, you must make sure to buy before 11:00 PM on Sunday, August 7th. You must also make sure your payment goes through, otherwise the items will be taxed.

If you need more information about the Texas Sales Tax Holiday, you can see a full list of what's exempt and what's not, along with details about online and phone ordering on the Texas Comptroller's Office website.

Make Sure You Save On Back-To-School

Gas and utilities bills are insane this summer, and prices on everything have gone up. It's just the lousy situation we find ourselves in right now. That said, the sales tax holiday is a fantastic opportunity to get ready for the new school year and keep some extra money in your pocket.

Bet You Didn't Know: 10 Bizarre Texas Laws Still on the Books

Many states still have strange laws on the books that aren’t enforced or taken seriously anymore, and Texas is no exception.

Most of these laws are just funny now, but at one time, there was a valid (or at least somewhat valid) reason for them to exist.

Texas has plenty of strange rules and regulations that you could technically be prosecuted for if you violate them, since they've never been amended. Some of these are only for specific cities and not state-wide, but all of them are pretty odd!

Let's take a look at 10 of the weirdest ones in the Lone Star State.
