Safety Tips for Trick-or-Treating This Halloween
Very soon, neighborhoods will be flooded with miniature fairy princesses and not-so-scary pirates, looking to fill their bags full of their favorite Halloween treats, so here are some helpful tips to make sure you and your family have a fun and safe time trick-or-treating this Halloween!
- WEAR BRIGHT COLORS
Whether you're a ghost or a ninja, make sure you are dressed brightly enough that people can clearly see you! Adding glow in the dark or reflective items is a perfect way to increase your visibility!
- BRING A FLASHLIGHT
Now that they can see you, make sure you can see them! Bringing a flashlight will help you shine a light on any dark roads or corners.
- HAVE A CHAPERONE
If you're a trick-or-treater under 12, take along a parent, guardian, or older sibling. There's nothing wrong with a family outing on Halloween, and there's everything cool about saying safe!
- STAY IN A GROUP
Whether you're with your family or out with your friends, make sure you stay with a group. There's safety in numbers! Pick a buddy, and know where s/he is at all times!
- STICK TO FAMILIAR PLACES
Not only should you only visit houses with a lit porch, don't venture into neighborhoods at night that you haven't seen in the daylight. This isn't the time for exploring!
- DON'T STAY OUT TOO LATE
Law enforcement encourages all trick-or-treating to wrap up before 8:00 p.m. That gives you plenty of time to hit the neighborhood and be back in time for a Halloween scary movie night!
- CHECK YOUR CANDY
Before you dig into your candy haul, make sure you check for anything that is suspicious or already open. Tampering rarely happens, but it's always best to be on the safe side!
