I'm not going to lie, I was kind of surprised by this one but when you're one of the folks putting up your own money to make the movie, you get to call the shots. I guess.

According to "The Wrap", Tyrese will star as R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass in a biopic that will be executive produced by Tyrese along with "Empire" creator Lee Daniels and Joan Pendergrass, Teddy's widow.

“Teddy Pendergrass embraced me and before he passed put the responsibility on my shoulders to tell his story... Teddy, I just hope we make you, your wife and family proud… Here we go.” - Tyrese Gibson via The Wrap

The story of Teddy P. has been long overdue. He was one of the biggest stars in the world of R&B in the early 70's beginning with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes then going solo releasing 4 straight platinum albums from 1977 to 1981. A tragic car accident in 1982 left him paralyzed from the chest down and after a bout with depression and suicidal thoughts, he managed to come back to music releasing 6 more albums earning  2 Grammy nominations. Pendergrass passed away in 2010.

Could you see Tyrese playing Teddy Pendergrass and if not, who do you think should play him?
