UPDATE: FOX News reports that six people total were shot. Two were killed, three were listed in critical condition, and one was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were still searching and clearing buildings late Tuesday evening.


 

Two people were reported dead and at least four seriously injured after gunfire at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Tuesday afternoon.



A message sent via the university's Twitter account advised students to run, hide, and fight.

FOX News reports that the campus was shut down around 5 PM Central Time, and officials warned of an "active assailant".

According to WCNC-TV, shots were reported fired at 5:40.

WJZY-TV reports that a suspect was taken into custody, and police do not believe there are any other gunmen.

WCNC-TV reported that 22-year-old former student Trystan Terrell, who reportedly dropped out last year, may be the man seen escorted away by police in the aftermath of the shooting.
