Super Mario Brothers is a classic video game, but not one that I would pay thousands of dollars for.

According to a press release from Heritage Auctions, an un-opened copy of Super Mario Brothers recently went to auction and sold for $114,000. Yeah, you read that right, over 100,000 for a game! It's almost as crazy as seeing beanie bag babies sell for beau-coup bucks!

"The demand for this game was extremely high, and if any lot in the sale could hit a number like that, it was going to be this one," Heritage Auctions Video Games Director Valarie McLeckie said. "We knew this would be a strong live session, but I don't think anybody could have anticipated how much bidding action there was on Heritage Live! and the phones. These results only verify Heritage Auctions' position in this rapidly growing market."

The sale of the un-opened game actually, "broke the world record for the most ever paid for any video game." Leading me to believe that this was in fact, a SUPER Mario fan.

The game was released in 1985 for Nintedo's NES console, but it's unlikely that this copy will be seeing any action. The bidder has chosen to remain anonymous. Not sure if that's out of embarrassment or security, but I'm thinking of the hundreds of other ways I would have spent the money.

What is the most amount you have spent on a video game? Do you have any classic un-opened games that you believe may be worth some money?
