Tragic: Viss Funeral Home Owner Dies in Accident at Belton Lake
An active local businessman and beloved Copperas Cove, Texas community member has died after a fatal accident at Belton Lake over Mother's Day weekend.
Officers with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said the bow of a boat being loaded onto a vehicle hit Viss and caused fatal injuries. The accident occurred Saturday evening at the Temple Lake Park ramp.
Ronald Viss Was a Devoted Central Texas Citizen
Viss began working at what was Scott’s Funeral Home in Copperas Cove in 2003 and became co-owner of the business in 2012. In January 2020, Viss became the sole owner and changed the name to Viss Family Funeral Home. He was the past president and the current president-elect of the morning Exchange Club in Copperas Cove. Viss was also an advisory board member for the Boys and Girls Club for six years, and served in several capacities at the First Baptist Church of Gatesville.
Viss served on the City Council in Gatesville for eight years and was the mayor pro-tem most of his term, according to the Killeen Daily Herald. He was a resident of Kempner, Texas at the time of his death. A representative from Viss Family Funeral Home said the family is asking for privacy, and no details about services for Viss have been released.
Officers say an investigation of the accident is ongoing, but it does not appear that any citations will be issued at this time.
