2014 BET Awards Clouded by Shooting & Stabbing at Parties Celebrating Ceremony

While the 2014 BET Awards are set on celebration, the festivities have been clouded by a shooting and stabbing at celebratory parties for the ceremony.

The Associated Press reports that one person was killed and five were injured in two separate incidents before the awards show began at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, according to police.

In a statement issued by BET, the network says the events were "unauthorized and unaffiliated" with the awards show.

An L.A. restaurant was the scene of the person killed and four injured early Sunday while the stabbing occurred on Saturday night (June 28) at a nightclub.

Both Ne-Yo and Nelly commented on the unfortunate incidents. "I feel like the energy I give off is the energy I get back, and I don't give off that kind of energy," Ne-Yo stated. "You can't place [the blame] on BET," Nelly added.
