A large amount of employees have recently tested positive for COVID-19 at the Springfield, Ohio Dole Plant.

According to a report from our news partners at KWTX, 230 workers at the Dole plant in Springfield have tested positive for COVID-19. Despite such a large number of employees being sick, the plant has no plans to shut down.

Originally Dole believed that there was only 38 positive cases among their workers, but after health officials tested over 800 employees on June 13, the cases skyrocketed.

Dole officials released the following statement last week.

“We are being very proactive and continuing to working closely and collaboratively with Clark County Combined Health District to implement their recommendations to protect the wellness of our employees and the community,” the spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “Of course as an essential business we are striving to get salads to people around the country, but are focused first on providing a safe and healthy workplace for our employees and their respective families.”

I don't consider myself an overly cautious person, but I probably will be skipping out on buying any fruit cups in the coming weeks.

Do you think Dole should shut down their plant in the midst of so many positive cases?

(Note: According to the CDC, the risk of contracting COVID-19 from food or food packaging is low, but they recommend always washing your hands after shopping, handling food packages, or before preparing or eating food.)
