Starting Saturday, residents of the Splawn Ranch subdivision in Killeen will need to boil any water meant for consumption as crews work to repair a fire hydrant.

Hilary Shine with the City of Killeen issued the following advanced boil notice for the area Wednesday afternoon:

Scheduled repairs to a fire hydrant in the Splawn Ranch Subdivision require water service to be turned off Saturday morning from midnight to approximately 8 a.m. Because water service will be interrupted to make the repair, a boil water notice must be issued until tests can confirm that water is safe for consumption.

The affected area is defined by a northern boundary of Tower Hill Lane, southern boundary of Chaparral Road, eastern boundary of Taylor Renee Drive and western boundary of Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Damage to the fire hydrant earlier this month interrupted service and required a boil water notice. Normal water service was restored; however, additional work is needed to complete the hydrant’s repair.

All affected properties will be contacted directly by a hand-delivered notice so that advance preparations can be made.

A BOIL WATER NOTICE is hereby issued for the Splawn Ranch Subdivision and adjacent properties to become effective at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, February 3. Residents of this area should boil all water prior to consumption. Public notice will be issued when the notice is lifted.

TCEQ Required Notice:

Due to conditions caused by maintenance of the water system, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requires the city of Killeen, PWS 0140006, to notify all customers in the above listed area to boil their water prior to consumption.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and for making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the water system officials will notify you.
