A man wanted in connection to a New Year's Eve shooting in Copperas Cove is now in police custody.

The Copperas Cove Police Department reported Tuesday afternoon that Calvin Lee Jackson Jr. was apprehended in the 200 block of Jaimie Drive in Harker Heights Monday, January 4 around 2:00 PM.

Harker Heights and Killeen Police had help from the United States marshals with the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, and Jackson was transported to the Coryell County Jail. Their records indicate he was booked at 7:30 PM Monday. He remained in custody Tuesday evening charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence.

At 12:26 PM Thursday, December 31, 2020, Copperas Cove police responded to reports of a gunshot victim in the 100 block of East Avenue A. When they arrived, officers found a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple. Police have not commented on the victim's current condition.

Investigators say Jackson fled the scene in a tan Cadillac. They issued an alert about Jackson later that day, and asked that anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect's whereabouts contact police or Crime Stoppers.

Police have not released the victim's name or commented on a possible motive.
