Capital Murder Charges for Death of 5-Year-Old

A woman has been arrested and charged for the death of a young girl in Orange, Texas.

According to a report from 12 News Now, 32-year-old Brenika Lott was arrested on June 29 for the capital murder of 5-year-old Daviana Landry.

Lott was a trusted friend of the family, and Daviana had just previously spent the night at Lott's residence. Paramedics received a call about an unresponsive child and were dispatched to the 700 block of 10th street in Orange. Upon arrival medics found Lott performing CPR on Landry, but the young girl was already deceased.

Authorities were called to the scene by the paramedics and an autopsy was ordered. Results from Landry's autopsy show that the child's death was caused by blunt force trauma.

Brenika Lott is being held in the Orange County jail, and a bail amount has not currently been set.
