Central Texas Fire Departments are looking for volunteers as temperatures rise along with the risk of fires.

Fire season in the CTX is quickly approaching, and it's imperative that all fire departments receive as much help as they possibly can.

Typically fire season is a very busy one for all departments across the CenTex, but with the help of large numbers of volunteers local departments have been able to handle the rush. According to KXXV and the Deputy Fire Chief of Copperas Cove "The overwhelming majority of fire fighters in the fire service are volunteer fire fighters.”

Volunteer fire fighters are important because most stations are unable to fully staff a paid fire department. Thus they rely on those in the community who are willing to volunteer to protect their community, especially in rural areas. Volunteers must attend training to learn the ins and outs of being a part of the team and helping save lives.

While most departments in the CenTex work together to properly prepare, volunteers are also included both in the field and in the classroom.

If you or someone you may know is interested in volunteering, please visit your local fire department for details.

A special thanks to those already volunteering. We really appreciate you donating your time and risking your own safety at times for the sake of others. It takes a lot of community pride and dedication to do that, and we salute you.
