Could $2k Monthly COVID Payments Happen?

A couple of lawmakers are working to get U.S. residents a $2,000 monthly payment during the current pandemic.

As reported by our partners at KWTX, Democratic Senators Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and Ed Markey have created a bill that would pay us $2,000 a month during the ongoing novel coronavirus situation.

According to an NPR tweet, "The U.S. unemployment rate soared to 14.7% in April — the highest level since the Great Depression." Bernie Sanders followed that up with a tweet calling the current situation "catastrophic."

If the bill passes, here's how it would work. Couples would receive $4,000 a month if they filed jointly and their adjusted gross income is $200,000 a year or less. $2,000 a month would go to individuals making $100,000 or less. Reduced payments would go to people and families who's income exceeds those limits. Families would also receive $2,000 a month for up to three dependents.

This bill is facing some tough opposition, as the Republican lawmakers are hesitant to pass the legislation.

We could all use more financial help as we slowly try to get things back to normal. That includes the millions of people who have been laid off, furloughed or had their hours cut due to the COVID pandemic.
